EIDERDOWN

Eiderdown is one of the world’s rarest and most luxurious natural materials. It comes from the female eider duck, which gently plucks the soft down from her breast during nesting season to get closer to her eggs, to keep them warm. The down is naturally lightweight, exceptionally insulating, and highly temperature regulating.

Unlike ordinary down, eiderdown clusters naturally cling together, creating a soft and airy structure that traps warmth while remaining breathable. This unique quality allows eiderdown duvets to feel featherlight while providing remarkable warmth and comfort throughout the year.

THE TRADITION OF EIDER FARMING

In Iceland, eider farming is a centuries-old tradition built on respect for nature and the wellbeing of the birds. During May and June, eider ducks come ashore to nest, while eider farmers carefully protect the colonies from predators and disturbance.

The relationship between the farmer and the bird is a unique symbiosis. The birds receive protection and safe nesting grounds, while the farmers collect the down only after it has been naturally left in the nests. The process is ethical, humane, and sustainable, with the wellbeing of the birds and their environment always placed first.

Around four tons of eiderdown are collected worldwide each year, and approximately three tons come from Iceland, making Icelandic eiderdown exceptionally rare.

THE PROCESS

Every step of processing eiderdown is carried out with exceptional care and craftsmanship.

After the down is collected from the nests, it is first carefully hand-cleaned. It then undergoes a detailed process where impurities are removed through specialized cleaning systems. The down is gently washed, dried, and finally inspected by hand to ensure only the purest down remains.

Because Icelandic eiderdown contains virtually no feathers, the final material is extraordinarily soft, clean, and refined.

The extensive time, skill, and precision involved in harvesting and processing contribute to the rarity and value of every eiderdown duvet.

WHY INVESTING IN AN EIDERDOWN DUVET?

Eiderdown is prized for its extraordinary sleeping comfort. The down naturally adapts to body temperature, helping you stay warm during cold nights while remaining breathable and comfortable when temperatures rise.

The result is a sleeping experience that feels light, calm, and deeply comforting.

Because only a limited amount of eiderdown is collected each year, every duvet is unique, combining rare natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and Icelandic cultural heritage.

An eiderdown duvet is not simply bedding; it is a long-lasting investment in comfort, quality, and timeless natural luxury.

CARE AND LONGEVITY

With proper care, an eiderdown duvet can last for generations. Caring for the duvet correctly helps preserve its softness, warmth, and natural structure over time.

Every duvet includes care instructions designed to help maintain the quality and longevity of this exceptional natural material.

CERTIFIED QUALITY

All Icelandic eiderdown is inspected and certified according to Icelandic regulations. Each duvet is accompanied by a certificate from an official down inspector on behalf of the Icelandic government, verifying both the quality and weight of the eiderdown used.

This certification guarantees authenticity and preserves the high standards associated with Icelandic eiderdown craftsmanship.
